Behind the camera - Pied Kingfisher photo explained by Darren Donovan
C4 Atelier proudly sponsored two free subscriptions to our Atelier to the Botswana Wildlife Photographer of the year winner and the runner-up.
wetland in the Madikwe Game Reserve, I saw a pair of Pied Kingfishers doing their thing, and hunting along the wetland. It was before sunrise, so the light was not there yet. I noticed they were using the same perch, after they’d dived and went to shake off the water before setting off again. So I set up with a dark background, and I slowed the shutter speed way down, so that I could get the slow spray of water coming off the Kingfisher.
Movement is one of the subjects I love in Wildlife Photography, and this is one way to use movement to create an interesting photograph, even with a commonly photographed subject.
